Goldmark, Karl

(1830-1915)
   Hungarian composer. His father was the cantor of a synagogue. He studied the violin and began to compose in 1842. In 1844 he went to Vienna and later studied at the Vienna Conservatory. In 1858 he organized a concert of his own compositions. His works include: String Quartet, Overture Sakuntala, Die Konigin von Saba, Das Heimchen am Herd, and Ein Wintermarchen.
